Coffee atlas: Nariño in Colombia

One of the highest growing regions in Colombia, producing some truly complex coffees

Altitude: 1500–2300 m above sea level

Varietals: Typica, Castillo, Caturra

Typically, such high altitudes would not present ideal growing conditions for coffee. However, Nariño’s location close to the equator on the border with Ecuador provide the environmental conditions that allow high quality coffee to be grown here. Over 1600 hours of sunlight hours, rich soils, and reliable yearly rainfall (1800mm) are examples of these ideal growing conditions.
